Join Mimo and Me For “Breathtaking Belgium”

A TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP IN BRUGES | Oct 11-15, 2026

Join Scott and Mimo as you embark on an unforgettable travel photography workshop in breathtaking Bruges, Belgium, one of the most photogenic cities in all of Europe, and one Condé Nast recently called a city that “resembles a scene from a fairy tale,’ the storybook heart of Belgium.”

Bruges will be our home base as we explore the gorgeous sites, charming canals, and cobblestone backstreets, along with some short trips to wonderful nearby areas like Ghent, which looks like the inspiration for the world of Harry Potter. Each morning, we’re out shooting on location, then we’re back in the classroom editing the images we took that day (or the night before), in Lightroom and/or Photoshop. We take a nice, long afternoon siesta, and then we’re back out shooting with Scott and Mimo teaching, coaching, and helping you to make some absolutely captivating images.

Bruges itself is pretty magical. Our friends at Wikipedia describe it this way: “Bruges (Brugge) is world-famous as a perfectly preserved medieval 'storybook' city in Belgium, often called the 'Venice of the North' for its picturesque canals and romantic, winding cobblestone streets. It is renowned for its UNESCO-listed historic center, stunning Gothic architecture, high-quality chocolate, and historic beer culture.”

TripAdvisor’s 2026 Bruges attractions page ranks the Historic Center of Brugge and The Markt among the very top sights, noting the UNESCO World Heritage status and enduring Gothic architecture. It’s a dream come true for photographers as the historic center is filled with medieval brick facades, stepped gables, cobblestone streets, and canals, so almost every block offers a frame‑ready scene.

Here’s why Bruges is beloved by Photographers:

The city is all about light interacting with water and brick: at sunrise, the canals go mirror‑calm, soft light wraps the towers, and mist can hang over the water; at blue hour, the street lamps and windows turn the canals into glowing reflection pools.

Bridges function as ready‑made platforms to work those reflections and leading lines; each bridge slightly changes the angle of the canal and skyline, so you get a lot of variety by moving just a few feet. Iconic anchors like the Belfry, the Church of Our Lady, Markt and Burg squares, and swan‑filled canals give you strong focal points and skyline elements for both wide cityscapes and tighter architectural studies.

Bruges is extremely walkable and compact, so in one golden/blue‑hour session, you can hit Rozenhoedkaai, the Dijver, several bridges, and a square or two without needing transport or long transitions. Classic postcard spots (Rozenhoedkaai, Markt, Burg, the Dijver) sit very close together, and between them, you have alleys, arches, and storefronts for detail shots, so you’re never “dead time” walking.

There’s just so much to see and experience, and of course, we’re also near a number of photographic destinations we’ll be visiting by bus (or by train) during the workshop. So while Bruges is our home base, its central location makes it ideal for exploring nearby towns and villages.
